It's a Double-Header!

Wow. So. Um. Two heads. Yeah. Totally didn't see that one coming. I thought of it on a whim after I had already come up with a design for the dragon persona contest, but I wasn't really satisfied with my original idea. Initially, I had drawn out a dragon whose wings disappeared when she lost confidence in herself, but I realized that was me five years ago. I had to come up with a design that represented where I am here and now. This two-headed dragon, as odd as it is, is a fairly accurate representation of my current self.

The Fancy Teacher Head
I am a teacher. I love coming up with exciting lesson plans, explaining various art methods and topics, and helping my students improve and gain confidence. It is the BEST feeling in the world when a lesson plan goes over well and the students really seem to enjoy the work they do! If I could do this for the rest of my life, I would.

The Artsy-Fartsy Head
I am an artist. I love doodling, drawing, sketching, painting, sculpting, carving, printing, you name it! I love the process of taking an idea from my mind, giving it form and life with my own hands, and watching the faces of people who view my work. It's incredibly fascinating and exhilarating, and just plain fun! If I could create art all the time, I would.

The Schism Between the Two
Fancy Teacher is so wrapped up in her teaching career that she has little time for artmaking of her own. Artsy-Fartsy resents being ignored and worries that there won't be any teaching jobs out there after graduation, so she would rather set her sights on building a portfolio of illustration work, or even writing and illustrating her own stories as a career. There are times Fancy Teacher loses confidence in herself and looks to Artsy-Fartsy for comfort. Artsy doesn't see any prospects in a teaching career, so she shrugs and talks about how much better the other art interns are at the job. When Artsy-Fartsy is frustrated with her artwork and is drained of self-esteem, Fancy Teacher coldly comments on how she was never that good at art anyway, so she might as well give up and do something useful for once.

Every so often, Fancy and Artsy are able to combine their abilities and do wonderful things together. When this happens, Fancy's lessons are fantastic and Artsy's work is amazing! It is only during moments like these, when both heads are of one mind and purpose, that their fire-breathing works. But, because of the schism, this balance is rarely achieved.
